Living with Vitelliform macular dystrophy 1
An inherited eye condition affecting the central retina, with round yellow deposits in the macula.
Understanding Vitelliform macular dystrophy 1
The macula is important for clear vision. This type has round yellow deposits containing a pigment called lipofuscin. Unlike other forms, GARD says it needs a special test, fluorescein angiography, for the most reliable diagnosis.
Signs & symptoms
GARD lists these symptoms as less common:
- Decreased clarity of vision
- Partial loss of field of vision
- Visual impairment
Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
