Living with Toxocariasis

An infection from swallowing eggs or larvae of roundworms from dogs or cats, most often found in children.

Understanding Toxocariasis

Toxocariasis is an infection caused by accidentally swallowing eggs or larvae of the roundworms Toxocara canis or Toxocara cati, found in dogs and cats.

It can cause no symptoms. In visceral larva migrans, larvae travel through organs such as the liver, lungs, or brain, with fever, cough, enlarged liver, pneumonia, or rarely brain inflammation. In ocular larva migrans, larvae reach the eye and cause eye inflammation and retinal scarring. It is seen in childhood.
