Living with Severe combined immunodeficiency due to LCK deficiency
A rare inherited immune condition with poor growth, severe diarrhea, and unusual infections, plus a risk of inflammation and autoimmunity.
Understanding Severe combined immunodeficiency due to LCK deficiency
It causes poor growth, severe diarrhea, and opportunistic infections. T cells develop and work abnormally, which raises the risk of inflammation and autoimmunity. It begins in the newborn and infant period.
Signs & symptoms
Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:
- Poor weight gain (failure to thrive)
- Long-lasting diarrhea
- Repeated chest and respiratory infections
- Chronic oral thrush
- Fever
- Low blood counts (anemia, low platelets)
Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
Diagnosis
