Living with Punctate inner choroidopathy

An inflammatory eye condition that affects the choroid layer and can cause blind spots and blurry vision.

Understanding Punctate inner choroidopathy

Punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) is an inflammatory eye disorder that mainly affects the choroid, the layer of blood vessels in the eye.

It most commonly occurs in young, nearsighted women, and GARD lists onset in adulthood. Symptoms and severity vary from person to person.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD says they may include:

  • A blind spot (scotoma)
  • Blurred vision
  • Flashes of light (photopsia)
  • Floaters
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Distorted vision or loss of side vision

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include eye disease specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.
