Living with Paternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 20
A very rare chromosome pattern with high birth weight, early obesity, a relatively large head, and tall height.
Understanding Paternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 20
Main features are high birth weight or obesity beginning early in life, a relatively large head, and tall height. Most people were found during testing for a condition called pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1b. The extra paternal material is often only part of the long arm of chromosome 20.
Signs & symptoms
Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD describes these main features:
- High birth weight
- Obesity starting early in life
- Relatively large head (macrocephaly)
- Tall height
Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
Diagnosis
- 1Talk with your doctor
Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.
- 2See a specialist
Specialists who may be involved include genetic specialists.
- 3Ask which tests can help
Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.
Care & treatment
- Care team
- Genetic specialists (geneticists)
- Expert care
- Ask about multidisciplinary care centers for rare conditions
