Living with Moyamoya angiopathy-short stature-facial dysmorphism-hypergonadotropic hypogonadism syndrome

A very rare inherited syndrome with narrowed brain blood vessels (moyamoya), short stature, facial differences, and underactive reproductive glands.

Understanding Moyamoya angiopathy-short stature-facial dysmorphism-hypergonadotropic hypogonadism syndrome

Moyamoya angiopathy-short stature-facial dysmorphism-hypergonadotropic hypogonadism syndrome is a very rare inherited syndrome that affects the brain's blood vessels, growth, and puberty.

It combines moyamoya disease, in which blood vessels in the brain narrow, with short stature that starts after birth and a characteristic facial look. People also have hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, in which the reproductive glands do not work as they should. It can show up at any time in life.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Narrowed brain blood vessels (moyamoya)
  • Stroke or bleeding in the brain
  • Short stature
  • Delayed puberty
  • Cataracts
  • Premature graying of hair

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.
