Living with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome type 2

A condition affecting the reproductive and urinary systems, and sometimes the spine and hearing.

Understanding Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome type 2

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome type 2 is a developmental disorder that mainly affects the reproductive and urinary systems.

Most people with it are female, though males can have it. Females can have an absent or unusually shaped uterus. Both sexes can have unusual reproductive tubes, kidney differences, and short stature. It may not be noticed until after puberty.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Absent or small uterus
  • Heart-shaped uterus
  • Absent or misplaced kidney
  • Short stature and short neck
  • Differences in the spine bones and ribs
  • No sperm in semen (azoospermia)

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include digestive system specialists, genetic specialists, kidney specialists and maternal-fetal medicine specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.

  4. Connect with expert centers

Resolve: The National Infertility Association may keep lists of experts for this condition.
