Leukoencephalopathy, diffuse hereditary, with spheroids 1 (ALSP) is an inherited brain condition that affects the white matter.

White matter is made of nerve fibers covered by myelin. Symptoms usually begin in a person's forties and get worse over time. Early signs can be personality changes, memory loss, and trouble planning. Later, thinking and movement are affected.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include brain and nervous system specialists and genetic specialists.

  3. Consider genetic testing

Changes in CSF1R are linked to this condition. Genetic testing and counseling can help confirm a diagnosis and explain what it means for your family.
