Living with Junctional ectopic tachycardia

A very rare heart rhythm condition present from infancy in which the heart beats too fast, nonstop.

Understanding Junctional ectopic tachycardia

Junctional ectopic tachycardia (His bundle tachycardia) is a very rare genetic heart rhythm condition with a nonstop fast heartbeat.

It starts in newborns and infants. The heart beats too fast without stopping (incessant tachycardia). GARD notes it can be associated with a disease of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy).

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Fast, nonstop heartbeat
  • Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Disease of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy)

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include genetic specialists and heart and blood vessel specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.
