Living with Intellectual disability, autosomal dominant 6

A genetic condition (GRIN2B-related) with developmental delay and intellectual disability, often with seizures.

Understanding Intellectual disability, autosomal dominant 6

Intellectual disability, autosomal dominant 6 (GRIN2B-related syndrome) is a genetic disorder with developmental delay and intellectual disability.

Intellectual disability ranges from mild to severe. Other symptoms may include low muscle tone, seizures, behavior problems including autistic features, abnormal movements, a very small head, and loss of skills. Some children have brain malformations seen on imaging.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Global developmental delay
  • Intellectual disability
  • Seizures
  • Long seizures with no recovery in between (status epilepticus)
  • Behavior differences
  • Small head (less common)

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include brain and nervous system specialists and genetic specialists.

  3. Consider genetic testing

Changes in GRIN2B are linked to this condition. Genetic testing and counseling can help confirm a diagnosis and explain what it means for your family.

  4. Connect with expert centers

GRIN2B Foundation may keep lists of experts for this condition.
