Living with Intellectual developmental disorder with dysmorphic facies, seizures, and distal limb anomalies

A rare genetic condition with developmental delay, early seizures, facial differences, and differences in the fingers and toes.

Understanding Intellectual developmental disorder with dysmorphic facies, seizures, and distal limb anomalies

Intellectual developmental disorder with dysmorphic facies, seizures, and distal limb anomalies is a rare genetic syndrome with multiple birth differences.

It includes varying developmental delay and intellectual disability, early-onset seizures, and facial differences. Other features can include a small head, low muscle tone, slow growth, heart defects, and finger and toe differences. Brain imaging may show a thin corpus callosum. It begins in infancy.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Small head (microcephaly)
  • No speech
  • Thin or missing corpus callosum on brain scans
  • Broad thumbs
  • Club feet
  • Wide opening between the eyelids

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include brain and nervous system specialists, genetic specialists and seizure and epilepsy specialists.

  3. Consider genetic testing

Changes in OTUD6B are linked to this condition. Genetic testing and counseling can help confirm a diagnosis and explain what it means for your family.

  4. Connect with expert centers

Epilepsy Foundation may keep lists of experts for this condition.
