Living with Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus

A rare skin condition with itchy, wart-like bumps in streaks or swirls, usually present from birth or early childhood.

Understanding Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus

Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a rare skin disease with an overgrowth of the top layer of the skin.

It causes small, wart-like bumps that may be skin-colored, brown, or red, lined up in streaks or swirls. Bumps can join into thicker patches that are red, itchy, and inflamed. It usually appears at birth or in early childhood, often on one side of the lower body, and is more common in females.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD describes these:

  • Small wart-like bumps
  • Bumps lined up in streaks or swirls
  • Thicker, red, inflamed patches (plaques)
  • Itching

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
