Living with Inborn carbohydrate metabolic disorder

A group of inherited conditions in which the body can't break down carbohydrates properly.

Understanding Inborn carbohydrate metabolic disorder

Inborn carbohydrate metabolic disorder is a group of inherited metabolic disorders in which the body can't break down carbohydrates properly.

Normally enzymes break carbohydrates down into glucose, a type of sugar. In these disorders, enzymes may be missing or may not work well, so a harmful amount of sugar builds up. Newborns are screened for many of them with blood tests.
