Living with Immunodeficiency 61

A rare immune condition starting in early childhood in which B cells don't make antibodies well, causing repeated infections.

Understanding Immunodeficiency 61

Immunodeficiency 61 is a rare immune disease that affects how the body makes antibodies, the proteins that help fight infections.

It often starts in early childhood and causes repeated infections. B and T cell numbers in the blood are normal, but the B cells don't work as they should.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Repeated bacterial infections
  • Repeated middle ear infections
  • Repeated respiratory infections
  • Repeated sinus infections
  • Attention problems (ADHD)
  • Obesity

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Your doctor may refer you to a specialist who knows rare conditions.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.

  4. Connect with expert centers

Immune Deficiency Foundation may keep lists of experts for this condition.
