Living with Idiopathic membranous glomerulonephritis

A kidney disease in which the kidney's filters become inflamed and let protein leak into the urine.

Understanding Idiopathic membranous glomerulonephritis

Idiopathic membranous glomerulonephritis is a kidney disease with inflammation of the structures inside the kidney that filter wastes and fluid.

When the filter lining (the glomerular basement membrane) thickens, large amounts of protein are lost in the urine. Symptoms develop gradually. It is usually seen in adults.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD describes these:

  • Swelling
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • Weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • Large amounts of protein in the urine

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include kidney specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.

  4. Connect with expert centers

NephCure Kidney International may keep lists of experts for this condition.
