Living with Familial adrenal hypoplasia with absent pituitary luteinizing hormone

A rare inherited hormone condition in infants with small adrenal glands and a missing pituitary hormone.

Understanding Familial adrenal hypoplasia with absent pituitary luteinizing hormone

Familial adrenal hypoplasia with absent pituitary luteinizing hormone is a rare hormone condition with underdeveloped adrenal glands.

The pituitary gland lacks one hormone, luteinizing hormone. Features include low sex hormone levels (hypogonadism), low blood sugar, seizures, brain illness, and a condition that causes excess urination (diabetes insipidus). It is seen in infants.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Underdeveloped adrenal glands
  • Low luteinizing hormone
  • Small penis (micropenis)
  • Undescended testes
  • Low blood sugar
  • Seizures

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
