Living with Distal 16p11.2 microdeletion syndrome
A chromosome condition with developmental delay, mild intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder, with a wide range of effects.
Understanding Distal 16p11.2 microdeletion syndrome
It has a highly variable picture. It typically includes developmental delay, mild intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder. A larger head (by age 2), brain structure differences, epilepsy, spine differences, and obesity are often linked. GARD lists onset during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.
Signs & symptoms
Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:
- Delayed speech and language
- Autistic behavior
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
