Living with Decreased circulating level of specific antibody

A rare immune condition causing repeated ear, sinus, and breathing infections.

Understanding Decreased circulating level of specific antibody

Decreased circulating level of specific antibody is a rare immune condition in which antibody levels are normal but some responses to germs do not work well.

It is a primary immunodeficiency (a condition present from birth). Immunoglobulin levels, including IgG subclasses, are normal. But the body does not respond well to polysaccharides, a type of sugar coating on some germs. GARD lists onset from childhood to adulthood.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Repeated upper breathing infections
  • Repeated upper and lower breathing infections
  • Middle ear infections
  • Sinus inflammation (sinusitis)
  • Nasal inflammation (rhinitis)
  • Fewer memory B cells

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include allergy and immune system specialists and genetic specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.

  4. Connect with expert centers

Immune Deficiency Foundation may keep lists of experts for this condition.
