Living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease axonal type 2X
A rare inherited nerve condition with slowly worsening weakness and loss of feeling, mostly in the legs.

It begins anywhere from childhood to adulthood with slowly worsening, sometimes uneven weakness and wasting in the hands and feet, and loss of feeling mostly in the lower legs. Other common features include high foot arches, curved spine, tight ankles, tremor, or bladder and genital problems. People usually keep walking.

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:
- Weakness in the lower legs
- Wasting of lower leg muscles
- Foot drop
- High-arched feet (pes cavus)
- Curved spine (kyphoscoliosis)

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Specialists who may be involved include brain and nervous system specialists and genetic specialists.
- 3Consider genetic testing
Changes in SPG11 are linked to this condition. Genetic testing and counseling can help confirm a diagnosis and explain what it means for your family.
