Living with Autosomal recessive faciodigitogenital syndrome

A very rare inherited syndrome affecting height, the face, the hands, and the scrotum.

Understanding Autosomal recessive faciodigitogenital syndrome

Autosomal recessive faciodigitogenital syndrome is a very rare syndrome with short height, facial differences, hand differences, and shawl scrotum.

It is present from birth. Facial features can include wide-set eyes, a long face, a long philtrum (the groove above the lip), and a prominent forehead. Hand differences include fused fingers and curved little fingers. Joints can be very flexible.

Signs & symptoms

Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:

  • Short height
  • Wide-set eyes
  • Long face and long philtrum
  • Forehead that sticks out
  • Fused fingers (syndactyly)
  • Very flexible joints

Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.

Diagnosis

  1. Talk with your doctor

Share the symptoms you've noticed, when they started and your family health history. Notes and photos can help.

  2. See a specialist

Specialists who may be involved include bone and joint specialists, genetic specialists and urinary and male reproductive system specialists.

  3. Ask which tests can help

Your care team will decide which exams and tests can confirm the diagnosis.
