Living with Anterior segment dysgenesis 4
A rare eye condition with unusually dark, smooth-looking irises, often with glaucoma.
Understanding Anterior segment dysgenesis 4
The irises are unusually dark and lack the usual pattern, so they look smooth. Brown irises look dark chocolate and blue irises look dark slate gray. GARD also lists glaucoma (high pressure in the eye), differences in the teeth, and a differently shaped face among the features.
Signs & symptoms
Symptoms vary from person to person. GARD lists these among the most common:
- Glaucoma (high pressure in the eye)
- Underdeveloped iris tissue
- Light-colored irises (iris hypopigmentation)
- Differences in the teeth
- Differences in face shape
Not everyone has every symptom. GARD's list comes from the Human Phenotype Ontology.
